Brushes - A Comedy of Hairs
BRUSHES: A COMEDY OF HAIRS
The World Premiere of Brushes: A Comedy of Hairs will run at the Whitefire for six Saturday nights, March 30 May 4, 2019.
Curtain: 8 p.m. This is a 90-minute show with no intermission.
ABOUT:
Brushes untangles the hysterically complicated relationship between women and their hair since time immemorial. Brushes with disaster, vanity, envy, self-doubt, sex, death - even the law - are explored in hilarious and poignant style. The follicular follies flow from the Bad Hair Days Inn to a new salon on the block called Blow Me Now. Grab your mother, daughter, best friend, better half and ex-stylist as we drink to our mistakes and celebrate our collective crowning glory.
THE CREATIVE TEAM:
Co-playwright Cathy Hamilton is a former TV reporter, newspaper columnist, blogger, marketer, author of sixteen humor books (Andrews McMeel Publishing) and creator of Boyfriend in-a-Box. She has appeared on the "Today" show as herself, "To Tell the Truth" as Cathy Hamilton #3, and in countless musical theatre productions, including "Nunsense," her favorite. She lives in Lawrence, Kansas, with her husband Rex, who notices (ahem) most of her haircuts. They have two adult children, a daughter-in-law and a rapidly maturing grandson. Co-playwright Carol Starr Schneider is a television writer, humor blogger and journalist. Her movie When Sparks Fly, starring Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, continues to air on Hallmark Channel. She lives in Sherman Oaks with her husband Howard, who notices her hair (or else!) and Sir Blakey, their royal rescue pup of questionable lineage. They have two sons and a wonderful daughter-in-law with beautiful hair.
Cathy met Carol in 1997 when Carol optioned the movie rights to Boyfriend-in-a-Box, a tongue-in-cheek, imaginary boyfriend kit Cathy invented to help single women (and more than a few men) answer the question: Are You Seeing Anyone? They've been friends ever since. They bonded over a warped sense of humor and their lifelong drama with hair.
Kevin Bailey, executive producer/director of Brushes, is a performer and producer who founded L.A.-based MB Artists in 1992 with partner James J. Mellon. Recent credits include executive producer of Reprise 2.0., God Looked Away, starring Al Pacino and Judith Light; Im Not Lying! starring Jaston Williams, and the new musical Rose Marie. Kevin is the executive producer for the play Ann, starring Holland Taylor, which he spearheaded from the plays inception. Ann played at Lincoln Centers Vivian Beaumont Theater and garnered a Tony Nomination for Ms. Taylor as Best Actress. MB Artists produced and represented the four highly successful plays in the Greater Tuna cycle and continues to represent and produce the solo works of performer/playwright Jaston Williams. In their 27-year history, MB Artists has created and produced over 50 theatrical productions, three films and dozens of industrials. Kevin resides in Los Angeles with his husband of 30 years, James Mellon. Their son Will, a college student, is a budding performer.
