One of the nations leading writers and commentators, David Brooks shares an inspiring exploration of what it means to live a meaningful life. Most of us, over the course of our lives, will make four big commitments: to a spouse and family, a vocation, a philosophy or faith, and a community. Our personal fulfillment depends on how well we fuse these commitments into one coherent whole. In "The Second Mountain," Brooks looks at people--from Dostoyevsky to Holocaust survivor Etty Hillesum to African educational entrepreneur Fred Swaniker--who have live joyous committed lives to understand how we can begin to integrate our commitments into one overriding purpose.
Tickets are general admission. Seating will be offered on a first come, first served basis. Call 314-994-3300 for more information.
Additional copies of David Brooks's books will be available for purchase and signing from Left Bank Books.
The proceeds from this event will benefit the Library Foundation's literacy programs.
