POW! 2019 Opening Ceremony
POW! 2019 Opening Ceremony
SPONSORED BY STAGECOACH
Still We Rise! Join us on International Womens Day for the spectacular opening of POW! 2019.
Artist Jessica Voorsanger and her posse of protesters will lead the procession Still We Rise named after the famous Maya Angelou poem.
Still We Rise is a reprise of the national Suffragette Procession which took place in June 2018, marking the centenary of some women gaining the vote. Turner Contemporary commissioned Voorsanger to work with a group of Thanet women to create a large scale banner to be part of the procession, which also included a banner specially made for POW! by artist Tracie Peisley.
Still We Rise will include community groups who have made their own banners and anyone who wishes to join the procession is welcome;using the colours of pink and black to represent POW! is encouraged.
After the procession, the banners will be displayed at various venues throughout Thanet.
The procession starts at Margate station and finishes at Turner Contemporary where Margate Social Singing Choir and young people, including those involved in the Creative Voices project, supported by Dreamland, will set the Festival off with a bang.
5pm - Meet at Margate Station for the Procession.
This is a FREE event, you can book tickets for entry to Turner Contemporary here.
