Come with us on a celestial journey through the mystery and glory of the night sky.
Contemporary composers Eriks Esenvalds, Morten Lauridsen, Daniel Gawthrop and others explore our relationship with the heavens as a source of solace, inspiration and joy.
A special feature of the concert will be the premiere of a new composition by Genevieve Persen, "You'll Find Me". Persen, who is a member of the Chorale as well as a composer, says of this work:
"This piece is written for Mary Kouyoumdjian, a composer and a close friend, who suddenly lost her fiancé, Matt Marks, a year ago, on May 11, 2018. Matt was also a well-known composer and musician. Together they created beauty in their music and in their community, celebrating and encouraging other artists to write fearlessly and authentically and to support one another. I sought advice and further help from local poet Kelly Austin McClung, who imbued confidence into what I had presented and contributed many of the beautiful ideas in this piece. I am very grateful to Kelly for her reassurance and thoughtful creativity, and also to Michael Miller for his editing and conducting prowess. Here, again, Matt and Mary have managed to create musical collaboration without even knowing it."
The concert culminates in John Rutter's luminous and gently consoling contemporary classic, Requiem, leading us to rest in eternal light.
