Neu! Reekie! & St. Patricks Festival present Scottish & Irish Poets
Neu! Reekie! & St. Patricks Festival present a brimful and bustling nicht of Scottish and Irish poetry.
Irish poets: Stephen James Smith, Felispeaks and Dagogo Hart. Scottish poets: Leyla Josephine, George Gunn, Janette Ayachi.
Part of the St Patrick's Festival - an International Artistic Collaboration with the Scottish Government, the British Council Ireland and Dublin UNESCO City of Literature; in association with Axis, Ballymun, Neu! Reekie! and Scottish Poetry Library.
Neu! Reekie! is run by poets Michael Pedersen and Kevin Williamson - who'll host the night.

LEYLA JOSEPHINE Leyla Josephine is an award-winning poet and theatre maker from Glasgow, Scotland. She has been featured on Huffington Post, Upworthy, Buzzfeed, The Guardian, BBC The Social, BBC Radio 4, BBC Radio Scotland and STV. She has been published in Gutter Magazine, The High Flight, The Scotsman and an anthology called Human and her first book Hopeless has just been published by Speculative Books. Her new play 'Daddy Drag' is forthcoming in late March.
GEORGE GUNN George Gunn was born in Thurso in 1956 where he still lives. He has been a deep-sea fisherman, a driller for oil in the North Sea, a journalist, playwright and poet. He is well known as a playwright, with over fifty productions for stage and radio; from 1992 to 2010 he was Artistic Director of Grey Coast Theatre Company, which he co-founded.
JANETTE AYACHI Janette Ayachi is a Scottish-Algerian poet living in Edinburgh. She has been published in many literary journals, including New Writing Scotland, and Gutter, and in anthologies: Be the First to Like This: New Scottish Poetry (Vagabond Voices, 2014), The Best British Poetry 2015 (Salt), and #Untitled 2, Neu! Reekie! (Polygon, 2016). Her new collection Hand Over Mouth Music will surface on Pavilion Poetry LUP in Spring 2019
STEPHEN JAMES SMITH Stephen James Smith is a Dublin poet and playwright central to the rise of the vibrant spoken word scene in Ireland today. To date, his poetry videos have amassed over 1 million views online. In 2017 Smith was commissioned by St. Patricks Festival to write a new poem as a celebratory narrative of Ireland. The resultant piece My Ireland has been viewed over 300,000 times online and was screened at London Film Festival in Trafalgar Square on March 17th 2018. Stephen has performed at high profile events and festivals such as Electric Picnic, Other Voices, the National Concert Hall, the Abbey Theatre (Noble Call) and Vicar Street; alongside luminaries such as Oscar winner Glen Hansard, Shane McGowan, Roddy Doyle, Joseph OConnor and Shane Koyczan. His poetry is included on the syllabus at Western Connecticut State University and his work has been translated into Irish, Spanish, Slovenian, Polish, Dutch and Italian. Smiths debut poetry collection Fear Not was released in Autumn 2018, published by Arlen House.
FELISPEAKS - FeliSpeaks (aka Felicia Olusanya) is a young Nigerian-Irish spoken word poet, performance artist and writer. Nominated for Best Performer by Dublin Fringe Festival 2018, Felicia has also been honoured with an award by the African Professional Network of Ireland for her unique contribution to the art scene in Dublin. Felispeaks has her mind set on changing poetry as performed and received in Ireland.
DAGOGO HART - Dagogo Hart is a Dublin based writer, performer and spoken word poet. He was the 2017 Slam Sunday grand slam champion and an All-Ireland poetry slam finalist in the same year. He was also the runner up for the Button Poetry 2018 video contest. Since starting spoken word poetry in late 2016, he has performed in open mics and slams all over the city and has been fortunate to also perform on stages such as St. Patrick's Festival, Electric Picnic and Dublin Fringe Festival. His most recent work includes; 'boychild', a spoken word play co-written with Felispeaks for the Dublin Fringe Festival, SEE TRUE, a spoken word variety show and Red Beard Paddy, a short film narrated with spoken word. His words are mostly inspired by his surroundings and issues he's personally experienced.
