Vancouver World Music Festival - Saturday Night
The Imperial 8pm-midnight
MOKOOMBA brings audiences an electrifying blend of Afro-fusion and tantalizing traditional Tonga rhythms. Their mix of Zimbabwean rhythms, Afrobeat and Afrorock generated exuberant scenes in over 75 concerts in 2017: from New Orleans Jazz Festival to Sziget Festival featured in Songlines Magazin, Arte TV, Afropop and many more.
LOCARNO is the Latin project of Juno award winning musician and Paperboys frontman, Tom Landa. The music, like him, is part Mexican but with strong doses of Cuban Son, Folk Music, Pop and Funk. There are threads of Son Jarocho and Salsa but the songs are more edgy and contemporary. The music could be compared to Manu Chao, Ozomatli or Rodrigo and Gabriela but although there are similarities it is truly original and a new flavour in the Latin music genre.
TONYE AGANABA is a singer-songwriter born in London England to a Nigerian father and a Zimbabwean mother. Her style can be described as Soul/ Neo-Folk/ Hiphop. She has been likened to folks like Lauryn Hill, Ani Difranco and Sia. She is a Much More Music Video Award recipient, social justice advocate and the kind of singer/performer that turns heads wherever she plays.
