Junkyard Workshop-with Tom Holding
Gear: Camera, lenses up to about 135mm and a Macro lens, tripod, shutter release
A water spray bottle is also handy for bringing out color depth and saturation on close ups and Macro shots.
Workshop Description: This is an opportunity for a very interesting photography adventure at a private truck/auto/etc. junk and salvage yard in the Greater Vineland area. If you like rusty and crusty, and great patina, and macro, this is the place for you. There will be cars, trucks of all kinds, buses, jeeps, a couple of fire engines, and some unique vehicles and equipment. This location was a site for the popular "American Pickers", however this is not Flemings. Macro shooters will be in 7th Heaven.
This workshop is open to all levels of photographers. Guidance and suggestions on exposure, settings, etc. will be available along with pointing out various image hotspots. Wide angle to moderate telephoto lenses will be most useful, plus a macro lens if you are so inclined. Tripods are always highly recommended. Some photographers attend just for access to the location, others to learn, and others to try a new technique or two. A liability/social media waiver will be required to be signed prior to entrance onto the private property.
Good hiking shoes or if it rains in the preceding days, maybe a pair of duck boots would be in order. This will be a weather dependent workshop, sun, clouds, cold, light rain is a go. Heavy rain will force a cancellation.
The location of this workshop is private, and is completely fenced in and locked. Thunderbolt Photographics Tom Holding is the only authorized workshop organizer with access to this property. Due to the nature of controlled private access, we will be meeting at the Vineland Ramada Inn/IHOP (under the big sign) in Vineland, NJ. We will depart from there at 8:20AM to caravan/carpool etc.to our site. We are approximately 10 minutes from our location. We will be entering the property as a group, so please be to the Ramada Inn before 8:15AM. Please make use of the Ramada facilities as there are not any facilities in the junkyard.
We will park on the outside of a person gate, and it will be closed behind us. Please bring everything you need in with you. There is a place inside the gate that we can leave excess items for easy access. Once inside, I will spend a few minutes orienting everyone as to what is in what direction. The gate will be closed behind us. For anyone wishing to leave early, the gate will be available to be opened at 10:30, 12, and 1:30. Upon arrival at the junkyard location, we will sign the obligatory waiver. The waiver, in addition to the usual language, will also contain the following:
Patron understands that this workshop location is a private facility, and access has only been granted for Thunderbolt Photographics Photography by Tom Holding, for a T & F Camera Workshop, and Tom will be the sole agent for any further photography of any type at this location. The name and location are to be kept confidential and only referred to as a junkyard in South Jersey, for all conversations whether verbal or media, and any or all photo titles or other identification. Non-adherence to this stipulation may result in the facility being closed to any further photography.
This location is a junkyard. There may be naturally occurring animals or creatures along with metal, broken glass, etc. There are also junkyard dogs present on the premises. Although there have been no issues, please advise of any aversion to animals, dogs, insects, etc.
There are a couple of elderly dogs that keep to themselves, and one German Sheppard pup that is about 2 years old Mouzer. (pronounced Mouse zzzerrrr.) Sometimes he barks, but is harmless, just playful.
