Renaissance City Choir Cabaret: Telling Our Stories
Renaissance City Choir Cabaret 2019: Telling Our Stories
In the good and the difficult times, we give comfort and encouragement to one another.
Some of the finest composers, poets, lyricists, authors, and musicians have been and are part of the LGBTQIA+ and allies community. This cabaret will feature the musical, poetic, and prose works of our community as we have sought to make sense of the successes and the challenging times in life. Our music will feature work from artists such as Elton John, Indigo Girls, Jason Mraz, Stephen Sondheim, Jerry Herman, Queen, Jonathan Larson, and others. The poetry and prose will feature work from authors such as Oscar Wilde, Alison Bechdel, James Baldwin, Leslie Feinberg, Truman Capote, Audre Lorde, Tennessee Williams, Alice Walker, Sappho, Dan Savage, Yukio Mishima, and more.
The Renaissance City Choir affirms and celebrates LGBTQ+ identity through the unifying power of music.
RCC is western Pennsylvanias only LGBTQA+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Allies) choral group. We strive to promote a positive image of the LGBTQ+ community and to be a leading contributor to the cultural life of the tri-state area. We seek to build bridges both within the LGBTQ+ community and with the community at large. Our programming blends challenging contemporary music, commissions of new works, an ambitious traditional repertoire, and music from various world cultures.
We seek to educate, challenge and enlighten both our audiences and our singing membership. We continue to affirm, by example and through song, the worth and dignity of sexual minorities. Music that is gay-positive and openly supports issues related to human equality and justice is represented at all concerts.
The Renaissance City Choir is a proud member of GALA Choruses.
