The Seasons Performance Hall Tickets: $15 Balcony, $20 Main Floor Canticus Vocal Ensemble is pleased to partner with Mid-Columbia Mastersingers to present our first ever collaboration program celebrating the music and heritage of Latin America. The central work of the concert, Missa Latina by Bobbi Fischer, is a complete setting of the Latin Mass for chorus, solo soprano, and a band consisting of violin, accordion, and jazz ensemble of piano, double bass, drums and percussion. The word "Latina" not only refers to the Latin text, but also to the musical style which makes use of Latin American rhythms. Elements from Argentinian tangos stand side by side with Caribbean rhythms and Latin jazz with space provided for instrumental improvisations. With this mass, the composer has succeeded in building a bridge between the music of Europe and that of South America. Featured performers include George Woodward on accordion and soprano soloist Naomi Isabel Ruiz Wickson. Both choirs will feature their own repertoire separately to start the concert, then will come together for Missa Latina as a great finale in this collaboration.
