Pangea Presents: Cathy Dresden, An Old Fashioned Girl
Cathy Dresden, An Old Fashioned Girl
Starring Cathy Dresden (Joe Hartman)
Directed By Daniel Adams
Featuring Michael Hicks on piano and accordion

"Joe Hartman is as comically clumsy as he is deftly capable--which makes his portrayal by turns funny and poignant."
Daryl H Miller, Los Angeles Times

"Cathy is a very special entertainer, stylish and full of heart."
TONY nominated playwright and actor, Charles Busch

Go back in time to 1958, where Cathy Dresden, America's big hearted songbird (as played by Joe Hartman) is winning viewers across the country with her full throated voice and plucky demeanor.  Her new show, Cathy Dresden: An Old Fashioned Girl, is both a gentle ribbing, and a loving tribute to the sentiment and splashiness of the 1950s, and of the great female vocalists that made the decade so memorable.
Cathy Dresden was first endeared to television viewers everywhere thanks to her appearances on Americas favorite competitive talent show Tony Polankos Nationwide Hour of Power! And while Cathy did not take home the ultimate prize of $2,000 (losing to Teeny-Tina's Tiny Triplets", America's sweetheart Siamese triplette plate spinners) the exposure it won her jumpstarted her singing career and allowed her to embark on her "Butterchurn Tour" of the dairy states. But while she considers America's farmer's the "true backbone of this great country", this former small town girl is thrilled to be in Manhattan. Watch her singing and swinging the hits of Broadway and the pop charts, by songsmiths like Jerome Kern, Jule Styne, and The Gershwins, as she ponders what it means to be an old fashioned girl.  See the girl that Fred Astaire says Can't dance. Can't say no to a schnitzel. Can sing a little!
Directed by Daniel Adams, Featuring Michael Hicks on piano, and brought to you  by Braden's Tinned Ham!

Joe Hartman is proud to be the conduit through which Cathy Dresden, the singing dynamo who rose to the heights of her fame in the late fifties, has come to life.  Cathy had her beginnings as a character in Los Angeles, and became the breakaway hit of his self-penned one-man show Overwhelming Underdogs in 2007.  Cathy has since starred in her own show Cathy Dresden Sings For Her Supper and was the inspiration for and star of Cathy Dresden's Christmas Spectacular. After a time in Hartman's hometown in Austin, Texas, he relocated to New York, and for the past two years has been bringing Cathy to benefit concerts and cabaret spots in Manhattan such as The Metropolitan Room and Don't Tell Mama.

Downtown's intimate supper-club Pangea is the ultimate in alt, playing home to some of the best in alt cabaret. The New York Times recently called it a bohemian oasis not unlike the fabled Max's Kansas City from days gone by."
