ACTIVISM: Local, National, International~Songwriting to Support your Activism
Now more than ever we need to stand up and speak up. We need to drop down our buckets where we are and address the myriad of issues facing this world of ours. Gaye will share her experience in the struggle for civil rights, the black power movement, the struggle for gay rights, womens rights, human rights. . . THE FIGHT FOR FREEDOM from oppression for all marginalized people. Mainly, however, this will be A PARTICIPATORY WORKSHOP with problem identification, brainstorming, role-playing, and analyzing to modify actions. Using and writing songs to support ones activism will be described and, pending time, songs may be created by the group.
For Black History Month, February 2014, the award-winning online magazine for LBTQ women (over 3.7K viewers per month), Autostraddle, names Gaye as one of 100 Black Lesbian, Bi-Sexual, Queer and Transgender Women You Should Know. She is listed with such notables as Zora Neale Hurston, Angela Davis, Alice Walker and Robin Roberts as well as her sheroes, Ma Rainey, Alberta Hunter and Bessie Smith.
