Janis: Little Girl Blue at the Rives Theatre
Fri., March 8th Film at 8pm $5
Synopsis: Oscar-nominated documentarian Amy J. Berg examines the meteoric rise and untimely fall of one of the most revered and iconic rock n roll singers of all time: Janis Joplin. Joplins life story is revealed for the first time on film through electrifying archival and performance footage, revealing interviews with friends and family, and rare personal letters written by Janis herself and narrated by indie musician Chan Marshall, aka Cat Power. Bergs Janis: Little Girl Blue is an intimate and refreshing portrait of a bright, complicated, often beleaguered artist who changed music forever. Janis: Little Girl Blue is written and directed by Berg, and produced by Academy Award-winner Alex Gibney (Going Clear, Taxi to the Dark Side). Also featuring Kris Kristofferson, Pink, Melissa Etheridge, Bob Weird, Dick Cavett, counterculture filmmaker D.A. Pennebaker, and the Joplin family.
