Thoreau Piano Trio, "For the Birds"
Powerful performances and imaginative programs are hallmarks of the Thoreau Piano Trio: Paul Jacobs, piano; Susan Jensen, violin; Darry Dolezal, cello. These three internationally acclaimed artists, with concert appearances on four continents and numerous accolades, including a Grammy nomination, present For the Birds, as a benefit concert for the Lowell Humane Society. The program will begin with a Mozart trio in tribute to the composers pet starling. This concert is appropriate for families.
On May 27th, 1784, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart met a flirtatious little starling in a Viennese shop who sang an improvised version of the theme from his Piano Concerto no. 17 in G major. Sensing a kindred spirit in the plucky young bird, Mozart bought him and took him home to be a family pet. For three years, the starling lived with Mozart, influencing his work and serving as his companion, distraction, consolation, and muse. - MOZART'S STARLING by Lyanda Lynn Haupt
