Five Decades of Popular Trumpet Solos - Jay Daly with the Chelmsford Jazz Ensemble
The Chelmsford Jazz Ensemble is thrilled feature the great trumpeter Jay Daly in this concert presenting five decades of popular trumpet solos. Ahhh...those beloved trumpet classics that spark your memory of yesteryear.Jay Daly pays tribute to the great masters who were widely recognized as pop artists of their time. Jay holds a personal connection with each melody, from having the opportunity to perform Stardust with the Artie Shaw Orchestra to simply enjoying playing along with their records as a young beginner. The sounds of Bunny Berigan, Harry James, Al Hirt, Herb Alpert, and of course, Louis Armstrong to name a few, all changed and influenced the American pop culture and are featured on this program.
About Jay...For 39 years Jays soaring lead trumpet has been a mainstay of Bostons diverse music venues. From Symphony Hall to the Colonial Theater, from the Boston Opera House to Tanglewood, from the Providence Performing Arts Center to the Portsmouth Music Hall, he has endeared himself to audiences and fellow musicians alike as one of the most versatile trumpet players in the Boston area, in the words of the Boston Globe. Jay is a favorite with touring star attractions. His talents have been tapped by the likes of Frank Sinatra, Mel Torme, Tony Bennett, Johnny Mathis, Natalie Cole, Linda Rondstadt, the Moody Blues, and many others. He is also frequently called on to play for Boston and Providence runs of touring Broadway shows, most recently Wicked and Moulin Rouge. In addition Jay has been 1st trumpet and contractor for the North Shore Music Theater for the last 28 years, one of the finest regional theaters in the country. He played lead trumpet for The Artie Shaw Orchestra for 18 years, the Harry James Orchestra for 4 years and has lead his own group, the NE Brass, since 1980. As an educator, Jay is in demand both as a clinician and a private teacher. His students hold playing and teaching jobs all over the globe.
