Anne Weiss, Steve Cheseborough, Julio Appling and Keely Doane
Blues, funk and folk troubadour Anne Weiss will be joined by bluegrass/jazz/blues master Julio Appling on acoustic bass. Steve Cheseborough, Portlands own mix of Blind Lemon Jefferson and Groucho Marx, will be opening with a delta blues set on harmonica and guitar and will share some tunes with Anne. Keely Doane, an up-and-coming new star of the contemporary folk scene in Portland, will be sharing her remarkable voice and songs during this Artichoke Music debut.

Steve Cheseborough re-creates the blues and hokum of the 1920s-30s, interspersing the songs with stories, history and humor. He sounds like Blind Lemon Jefferson or Bo Carter playing, with Alan Lomax moderating and Groucho Marx adding comments. The author of Blues Traveling: the Holy Sites of Delta Blues and one of the stars of Last of the Mississippi Jukes,Cheseborough has the uncanny ability to turn any setting into a 1925 Mississippi jook joint. Sure, Ken Burns is good at research. But can he play guitar? Burns has made documentaries about jazz, but can he sing? Steve Cheseborough can, and does, in one-man shows that bring the Delta blues to life.  Niki Price, Oregon Coast Today

Double bassist & educator Julio Appling lives in Vancouver, WA. He previously served as the primary bassist for Portland-based jamgrass group The Student Loan as well as fusion group Trio Flux. Julio earned his B.A. in Music (Bass Performance) from the University of Redlands and an M.M. in Musicology from Bowling Green State University. As an educator Julio has served as an instructor of both music and technology courses at BGSU Firelands, Tiffin University, and Clark College.
