Live at Studio5: RICHARD D. JOHNSON TRIO
Richard D. Johnson, piano
Christian Dillingham, bass
Charles Heath, drums

I asked Richard for a few words to describe this performance and he sent back a fabulous statement: The evenings presentation will involve lots of swinging, toe tapping and hand clapping music for all. You will be transported to the future of jazz using all the techniques of the past!

Who doesnt want to be there for that? This is Richards first appearance at Studio5 so I thought you might want to know a little bit about this impressive artist. You can read it  or you can just click on the video below. Thats all I needed. What a player!

Born in Pittsburgh, Richard was introduced to the piano at the age of five by his father, a gospel pianist in the church. Since then he has cultivated a rich, pedigreed musical background, schooled by some of the most legendary jazz musicians and trained at the most esteemed music institutions. He graduated from the Berklee School of Music in two years, earned a Masters degree in Jazz Pedagogy from the Boston Conservatory, and received an Artist Performance Diploma at the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz Performance at New England Conservatory under the direction of Ron Carter. He was a member of Wynton Marsalis' Septet and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra from 2000-2003. He has shared jazz worldwide as a United States Musical Ambassador by the U.S. State Department, and started the Reach Afar program for young people ages 7-17, educating them about elements of jazz in hip-hop.

Join us. We'll be recording this performance for Chicago Jazz Live on WDCB, so you'll be part of the studio audience!

Cash bar, light snacks, free parking right outside. Doors open for cocktails at 7:30.
