Claudia Nygaard and Tom Swearingen
Special Afternoon Record Release Concert at Café Artichoke to Feature Award-Winners Singer Songwriter Claudia Nygaard and Cowboy Poet Tom Swearingen.

With a voice like amber honey that is impressive for both its power and intimacy, Claudia Nygaard delivers songs that are heartfelt, humorous, scrappy, and sensual.  And so are the stories in between them.  Emotionally fearless, she is a captivating storyteller who shares her deepest sorrows with a rare vulnerability and tenderness one moment, then displays a quick wit and an outlandish, irreverent sense of humor the next.  As a salaried staff songwriter on Nashvilles Music Row, Nygaard learned her craft well.  Her CD Let The Storm Roll In rose to #1 on the Cashbox Roots/Country chart and #8 on the Folk DJ chart.  Two of the songs, Georgia Boy and J.C. won the Kerrville, TX Folk Festival New Folk songwriting competition for her, but they werent the only songs that radio took a liking to.  EVERY song on the album received airplay.  Storm was also highly praised by the press.  It received five stars from Americana benchmark magazine Maverick, and legendary folk music magazine Sing Out claimed the songs rival the likes of Guy Clark or Ian Tyson. Claudia tours tirelessly, and has torn up the highways of all fifty states and nine foreign countries.  Nygaards Artichoke appearance will be the Portland Release Party for her brand new CD Lucky Girl, produced by Grammy nominee Neilson Hubbard.  For more on Claudia see claudianygaard.com

Tom Swearingen is an Oregon horseman who tells stories of the people and land of the American West through original cowboy poetry that is often inspired by his own experiences and observations from the saddle.  Tom brings his stories to life with rhythm and rhyme and a style that makes him a popular performer not only at cowboy gatherings and horse camps, but also in singer-songwriter circles and wherever else you find folks who appreciate well-crafted verse.  A two-time winner of the National Finals Rodeo Cowboy Poetry Contest and three-time Western Music Association Top-5 Male Cowboy Poet of the Year, Toms poems have been published by the Center for Western and Cowboy Poetry, and recognized by such organizations as the National Cowgirl Hall of Fame.  His two CDs have each been recognized as finalists for WMA Cowboy Poetry CD of the Year.
