The Spire Ensemble sings Brahms' "German Requiem"
Johannes Brahms genius composer, eloquent conductor, brilliant concert pianist never was more happy than when he was playing piano duets with his closest friend, Clara Schumann. Pure joy is palpable in the great masters transcription of his German Requiem for piano four-hands, soloists, and chorus. The arrangement allows for a degree of intimacy, precision and contrapuntal clarity that cannot be achieved in the orchestral version.
In their Cathedral concert, director Ben Spaulding will lead the ensemble in the inspiring architectural setting of the great neo-Gothic nave of Grace Cathedral, Topeka, and utilize the Cathedral's fine 1923 Steinway Concert Grand Piano.
The Spire, plus the space, plus the instrument...a perfect marriage for a wonderful concert!
