Drawing the Dorc Order
Drawing the Doric Order. This Core Curriculum Course will offer 6 AIA Learning Units.
The six-hour Saturday seminar will combine lecture and drawing components of the Doric Order. The presentation will begin with a brief history of the development of the order and an overview of the methodology behind its construction, followed with step-by-step instructions on how to draw the order. The blackboard session will involve manual drawing of the order to illustrate the ideal ratios and proportions established by Renaissance treatise authors Vignola and Palladio. The seminar will emphasize the tectonic nature of the order and its origin in load-bearing post-and-lintel assemblages.
Richard Economakis combines practice and teaching in architecture. He is Associate Professor of Architecture at the University of Notre Dame and currently serves as Director of Architecture and Urbanism in the School of Architectures Graduate Program.
