A glorious gala is being held on Saturday, March 16th at St. John's College in Annapolis, Maryland, where all the forces of the Chesapeake Youth Symphony Orchestra, the foremost youth orchestra in Anne Arundel County, will showcase their talented musicians during this two-concert event.
The afternoon and evening concerts will feature guest performances by the virtuosic violinist Kurt Nikkanen, concertmaster of the New York City Ballet.
The evening concert will also feature several renowned Morgan State University graduates: rising star Leah Hawkins, who is currently performing with the Metropolitan Opera in New York City, and the boisterous sounds of the Carter Legacy Singers.
The pinnacle of the evening performance will feature Mr. Nikkanen on violin with the Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of Maestro Julien Benichou, Music Director, presenting a world-premiere violin concerto entitled Vermilion, composed by New York-based artist Stephanie Ann Boyd and commissioned specifically for the CYSO to perform.
We are also pleased to welcome back WBJC's cordially captivating Program Director and Host, Jonathan Palevsky, as our evening Master of Ceremonies again this year.
This Gala is the Chesapeake Youth Symphony Orchestra's main fundraiser for 2019 and all ensembles will be performing in either the afternoon or evening concert with our Jazz Ensemble performing at the 1pm reception.
Both events begin with a professionally catered reception and silent auction, and this year we are offering everyone a chance to win a trip to Dublin, Ireland! Raffle tickets for this exciting prize are only $5 and can be purchased throughout the reception. The drawing will take place after the evening intermission and the lucky winner does not need to be present to win.
The winner will receive a six-night stay for two people to explore the stunning scenery along the Antrim Coast in Northern Ireland, which is where the Game of Thrones has been filmed. This package includes accommodations in historic castles, VIP passes to the Guinness Storehouse, and a free rental car.
Music speaks to those who listen and can be a pathway forward to one's destiny. The Chesapeake Youth Symphony Orchestra, with its ability to warm the hearts of the listener, is considered a true treasure in the Annapolis community and we hope you will join us!
