Tom May and Doug Smith
Two nationally known acoustic musicians from our area join forces for their annual Portland duo program at Artichoke! Tom May has been a professional traveling singer/songwriter for more than 45 years. He has shared the stage with Gordon Lightfoot, Joni Mitchell, Alabama, and Willie Nelson. Along the way he has released 14 of his own albums, performed in every state, produced the national public radio broadcast River City Folk for over 35 years and founded and continues to produce Portlands largest annual folk music event, Winterfolk, a benefit for our areas struggling homeless population. Doug Smith is an internationally renowned finger style guitarist, performer, and clinician. He is a winner of the prestigious Winfield, Kansas, guitar competition, has been featured in the Hollywood production of the movie August Rush and shares a Grammy Award for his work on The Songs of Henry Mancini." He has performed and taught in Japan, China, and throughout the U.S. Doug is working on an exciting new project to put August Rush on the Broadway Stage in New York, and will be featured as both a musician and actor. Tom and Doug have enjoyed sharing a repertoire they both love of original songs and some instrumentals. This really fun presentation features solo performances by each of them, but more than half of the concert in an exciting duo format.
