"My Narcissistic Pilgrimage" is an ensemble show pulling on the myth of Narcissus and Echo in order to explore narcissism and the desire to connect with other people in today's world. Just as Narcissus looks into a reflective pool and becomes mesmerized by his own reflection, this piece reflects the various faces of the performers' self-centeredness. The show also presents ways we can fulfill the deep longing we all share to connect with the community around us.
Upon entering the theater, you will find yourself in another world within a house of mirrors and windows. Some reflections will present an accurate reflection while others will be distorted. Some windows will be open and some will be closed. Both windows and mirrors are the openings and obstacles the characters must face in order to connect with those around them. You will meet many bizarre characters, watch lots of dancing, and bear witness to an abundance of silliness. You will also be invited to participate in games and interact with the performers on stage.
This is a show for children and adults alike. It takes us on a journey into the many faces of how we see ourselves and others. The performers have prepared for many months to transform ourselves in an effort to connect more with each other and our audience. This show is a result of our efforts.
In our process of creating this work, the performers are learning what narcissism and connection mean to each of us. This exploration has offered us an expansive palette to pull from in order to show you, the audience, how we all act like Narcissus sometimes and can find connection past our own reflections. We welcome you, and look forward to playing!
