Instinct Quartet showcases Mary Rose, flute; Gary Yamane, alto sax, guitar; Joseph Salack, bass; and Dave Wayne, drums.
Mary Rose studied flute and jazz improvisation with multi- instrumentalist, composer, and educator Makanda Ken McIntyre, and composer and master flutist Robert Dick who specializes in multiphonics and extended techniques on the flute. She has performed widely with jazz groups in New York City, New Mexico, and Colorado.
Gary Yamane is a teacher, composer and performer whose interest in music spans all genres. He has studied music with teachers such as Rudy Tapiro, Gary Gray, John Handy, and Joe Viola. Gary has performed throughout the San Francisco Bay Area as well as the east coast and southwest. He currently teaches contemporary music at Moreno Valley Charter High School and in 2010 he established Rock The Schools in response to a growing need in schools and communities.
Joseph Salack, pianist, bassist, and composer, has been playing jazz and creative improvised music for over 35 years at venues in Chicago, San Francisco, Taos, and Santa Fe. He studied piano with Erwin Helfer and Kevin Zornig; bass with David Parlato; and harmolodics with Don Cherry. Joseph currently performs with many New Mexico jazz and improvising musicians.
Hailing from Philadelphia, PA, self-taught musician Dave Wayne has been playing the drums for 30-odd years. Since arriving in Santa Fe in 1993, he's played with numerous local jazz, blues, and rock artists.
RoMARKABLE showcases Mark Whitecage (alto sax, electronics, composer), and Rozanne Levine (alto clarinet, Bb clarinet, bamboo flute, composer). They each have their own groups and have performed with many of the leading internationally known improvising musicians. Their performances of original compositions and free improvisations feature electronic manipulation of their horns alongside acoustic forays. They toured the U.S. in the summer of 2002 performing in North Carolina, Texas, Oregon and Washington State. They have also performed at Liberty Science Center's ""Converge"" art and science series in New Jersey, The Bop Shop in Rochester, New York, and The Buttonwood Tree in Middletown, Connecticut.
