Cal Scott - 2nd Saturday Community Concert
Doors 6:45, concert 7:30. Door price is $25
Cal Scott, in a rare solo appearance, is an award winning singer-songwriter and composer from Portland Oregon. Two songs from his 2013 CD, Carved Wood Box, won national song-writing contests, and received widespread radio play. His performance will feature several new songs, which will be on a new CD which is in progress. Cal was the musical director of The Trail Band and also recorded and toured with Irish fiddler Kevin Burke. Their CD, Across the Black River, was hailed as one of the top 12 world music CDs of 2007 by the New York Times.
He also composes music for film and TV, and has scored over 50 documentaries and specials for PBS, including three Frontlines and Oregon Public Broadcasting's, Oregon Experience "We had the great good fortune to have Cal Scott at our Round House Concert series and we could not have asked for a more enjoyable evening of music. Cal's beautifully crafted songs took us through a tasting menu of poignant story telling, insightful reflection and light-hearted hilarity. From percussive, syncopated rhythms to bright, clear, finger styled tunes, Cal demonstrated his mastery of the guitar. If you appreciate great writing, musicianship, and performance that only years of experience can deliver don't miss a chance to spend an evening with Cal Scott." John Harper Round House Concerts As a songwriter, Cal moves easily from light, funny up-tempo romps like Paid Too Much For the Diamond and Overcast Skies to emotional ballads such as The Will and the Wind and Listening for Love. His real strength, though, is in telling stories about the flotsam left behind as we live our lives (Dig Down Deep), the lives of Irish emigrants (London Town), or how an instrument might touch many lives over the years (Carved Wood Box). As a performer Cal is among the best. Hes always engaged with the audience and tells great anecdotes and stories about how his songs came to be. Dont miss any chance you might have to see Cal Scott!
