Santa Fe Opera Apprentice Program
Santa Fe Opera Apprentice Program Sat. July 27, 7:30 pm
It has launched numerous careers including those of James Morris, Samuel Ramey, Joyce DiDonato, William Burden, Brandon Jovanovich, Dimitri Pittas, Susanna Phillips, Kate Lindsey to name just a few. Aspiring young singers from all over the country audition each year to become members of this prestigious program. From more than one thousand, thirty-five are chosen. They spend the summer in Santa Fe, serving as members of the chorus, and also receiving training and coaching from leading singers and teachers along with stage technique and career counseling. Some are given small roles to perform. While they are in Santa Fe the singers appear in churches, community centers, restaurants and even at Whole Foods. These informal appearances are much anticipated and appreciated by the public. At the end of the summer each singer appears in an operatic scene which is staged and costumed by the Opera's Technical Apprentices, the companion training arm which provides valuable experience behind the scenes. The Santa Fe Opera is proud of the great success of the Apprentice Program for Singers as an invaluable stepping stone to future careers.
