BECOMING PEACE . . . and. . . MAMAISMS
BECOMING PEACE is a one woman rhythmic dramedy about Power, Culture, Violence and Nonviolence - written and performed by Candace Carnicelli, directed by and developed with Jessica Lynn Johnson, and being performed as part of the largest solo theater festival on the west coast, the Whitefire Theatre's Solofest 2019.
. . . . AND
MAMAISMS . . Old-Fashioned Wisdom for a New Generation - is written and performed by Sonia Jackson, directed by and developed with Jessica Lynn Johnson "What we've learned from Mama, we'll carry with us for a while and then some. Criticism or praise, hostility or peace, even if we're Mamas, we were born children and we'll be children all our lives. Come, be reminded, laugh and cry at the Mamaisms we grew up with and maybe learn a new one or two!"
. . . more on Becoming Peace: Growing up in a chaotic environment and experiencing the backlash of alcoholism and family dysfunction - from an early age Candace (aka Candy-Ass) was in search of a way out. After years spent in self-help seminars, reading self-help books, and engaging in spiritual endeavors - in 1998 Candace stumbled upon Rev. James Lawson - the nonviolence architect of the Civil Rights Movement - and the quote: "Attacking the wrong and not the wrongdoer!" - and the Season for Nonviolence - a 64 day nonviolence campaign initiated by Arun Gandhi, Mahatma Gandhi's 5th grandson. In Becoming Peace, Candace - now the Ex. Director of Common Peace, Center for the Advancement of Nonviolence, a Los Angeles based nonprofit whose focus is nonviolence education - creatively, rhythmically and humorously explores and maneuvers through the complexities of her life's chaos, attempting to activate "Nonviolence" and move in the direction of Peace. Nonviolence has four (4) core building blocks - the understanding of which allows for a healing process to be activated: Power, Culture, Violence and Nonviolence. In Becoming Peace, Candace explores each of these building blocks in a loving, humorous, and edu-taining way that communicates the power and possibility of nonviolence as a way of life for individuals, communities and the World!
