Fresh from the stages at Faerieworlds music and arts festival in Oregon come two stellar musicians joining forces to create an evening of music and mayhem in the heart of Chicago! Bringing their creative fires together to heat up a sultry August night, two sirens of song will weave an enchanting evening of magic, myth and musical wonder. Steeped in Celtic folk, rolled with a bit of Mythpunk and a pinch of faerie dust, these multi-talented musicians defy definitions. Bring your dancing shoes and your shining spirits to this first ever Chicago performance for Sharon Knight with her special guest S.J. Tucker.
About Sharon Knight: San Francisco songstress Sharon Knight is a Celtic folk singer in leather armbands. Her distinctive voice and striking poetry have won her a loyal following across the country. Together with longtime collaborator Winter, she tours nationally several months out of the year, performing at festivals, masquerades, conventions, cafes, shops and house concerts. Preferring to stray from tradition, Sharon and Winter have developed their own Celtic-hybrid style, "Neofolk Romantique". This often sounds less Celtic and more "Folktales that ran away with the Faeries at the turn of the century and took cover in an old trunk bound for the circus, which was then commandeered by pirates." This suits them fine.
Sharon has recently been featured on the cover of Witches and Pagans magazine, has been included in a European release "Best of Pagan Folk volume 2", and performed Faerieworlds main stage for the second year in a row. She and Winter are pleased to be making their debut appearance in Chicago with SJ Tucker on August 10th. www.sharonknight.net
About SJ Tucker: "Without our songs and stories, we are nothing." This one phrase tells you what you need to know about SJ Tucker. Multi-instrumentalist, road warrior, front woman, songwriter and rallying point; yes, she is all of these things. More than anything, she is a storyteller. Named a vanguard of the Mythpunk movement and even "The face of neo-tribal Paganism" by Witches & Pagans Magazine, Tucker is the voice of lore at the campfire and the sharp laughter of modern myth. With one hand anchored in her art and the other held out to you, she is songs and stories, community and wit.
With over ten albums released to date and several more currently in the works, Tucker has received songwriting awards and has traveled the world with her music. For her, it all comes back to the fans, who have lifted her up and shown her their support since the beginning. A dynamic live performer known for her willingness to follow an evocative ballad with a tune about ninjas or pirates, Tucker is never in danger of taking herself too seriously. She is silly on stage, letting it be plain that she loves her job, but she also shows grace and calm, courting and cajoling the audience from song to song. www.sjtucker.com
