Songwriters on Stage
Tues Feb 5 | 7pm General Admission | $10
Each month, the Maine Songwriters' Association presents Songwriters on Stage, a showcase of some of the best songwriters Maine has to offer. The show typically features three seasoned performers and an emerging songwriter to kick the evening off. It's an opportunity for listeners to discover new music or come hear local favorites in one of the best listening rooms in Maine. The February concert will feature four seasoned performers: Ben Hunsberger, Jenny Lou Drew, Jason Roman, and Olivia Frances.
Ben Hunsberger [Host and participant] Blending a lifelong passion for music with his unique perspectives on life, love, politics, and nature, Ben Hunsbergers music is seasoned with flavors of Jackson Browne and The Beatles, and echoes of Brubeck and Mose Allison. Clear vocals backed by keyboard and guitar highlight his live performances. Ben has played with many well-known area musicians including Chris Moore, Ted DeMille, and Jud Caswell, as well as to area-favorite bands Magic 8 Ball and Leopard Girls. He has recorded eight original albums, and his latest effort, New Paint, is available at www.welcomefarmmusic.com, iTunes, and Amazon.
Jenny Lou Drew A Maine artist in regular rotation on WCLZ, Jenny Lou Drew stopped by Studio Z in December to announce her forthcoming sophomore album. With a voice described as spellbinding by Maine music writer, Aimsel Ponti, Drew considers herself a songwriter first and foremost. Along with her husband, guitarist/producer Scott Morgan, she is currently planning a Northeast tour in support of the June 2019 release of Rockbiter.
Jason Roman is a self-taught singer/songwriter who continues finding solace and strength in expressing himself through song. The son of a troubadour, Jason sings his way through life and continues seeking growth as a songwriter, "It forces me to try to understand myself and the world around." His musical travels have traversed the continental US and parts of Europe but he is very pleased Maine is now home and is happy to help build community with song.
Olivia Frances is an old soul with a sunny disposition. Wisdom shines through her pop-folk musical creations, which is obvious to listeners on her latest single, "Moon to My Sun," which received critical acclaim. It was named Best Pop Song of 2017 in the Ohio Music Awards, the VOX Pop (Voice of the People) Winner in the Love Song Category at The 16th Annual Independent Music Awards, and won 1st prize in the Singer-Songwriter Category at the 2018 New England Songwriting Competition. Born and raised in Cincinnati, Olivia now resides in Worcester, MA where she is a student at Clark University. Olivia is majoring in global environmental studies and minoring in music with a concentration in jazz guitar.
