Food as Medicine Series
Food as Medicine - Presented by Christine Fleming, JRCHC Clinical Dietician
This three part series will cover the ways in which good nutrition can positively impact your health with realistic and delicious ways to incorporate into your everyday life.
This workshop is presented by MAP in partnership with Jericho Road Community Health Center.
January 16: Functional Foods
Functional foods are ones that contain benefits beyond basic nutrition. For example, many fruits and vegetables contain antioxidants that prevent cell damage and promote repair cell. In this class, we will identify the best natural sources of antioxidants, as well as how to prepare these foods to get the most flavor and nutritional value that they have to offer!
February 13: Heart Health
Celebrate heart month by learning about foods that can protect your heart and decrease your risk of heart disease. We will cover a variety of examples of heart-healthy foods that you can incorporate into meals, snacks, and even desserts!
March 13: Immune-Boosting Nutrition
This class will cover nutrition strategies to promote a healthy immune system. In addition to learning about natural remedies to protect your body against sicknesses like the flu and common cold, we will look into which foods and beverages to eat more of (and what to avoid) when you start to feel under the weather.
