An intimate evening with Meeting Across The Water
MEETING ACROSS THE WATER'S blend of rootsy jazz-blues-gospel has been called "uplifting," "affirming of our common human experience," and "the perfect antidote to feelings of fear, loneliness and separation that too often dominate our consciousness today."

ACA is delighted to present Meeting Across the Water as part of the 2018-19 "Migration" program series. The concert will take place in the new Shaira Ali Gallery + Performance Center.  The gallery exhibit, "I'm New Here: Perspectives on Migration" will surround the band and audience in ACA's first salon-style concert in this intimate new music performance space.  Proceeds from the concert will help fund the purchase of a new sound system.

MATW is composed of four prominent musicians from the Boston area - Louise Grasmere, Fred Griffeth, Jonathan Singleton, and Eric Kilburn.  Together, they create memorable music that nourishes audience members on a deep level and provide sustenance beyond a night's entertainment.

Meeting Across the Water explores gospel music from the 1850s to the present, including black gospel street tunes from the mid-1900s and post-World War II music, along with band members' original gospel tunes. The band's music springs from band members' deeply-held belief that African-American and white spiritual traditions can joyfully connect and share with each other.

"I've never heard of a band like this before," says singer-percussionist Fred Griffeth. "Who ever thought a gumbo of Black urban blues, R \& B, and soul blended with White rural folk and bluegrass could be this much fun? But Gospel is the thread that ties it all together." Band member Louise Grasmere adds, "The band sound is a blend of acoustic guitar, mandolin, piano and percussion with compelling lead vocals and multi-part harmonies."
