MySpiltMilk.Com presents Superhumanoids with Aerial Attack
"Those searching for early "song of the summer" candidates need look no further than "So Strange," the new single from Superhumanoids' forthcoming debut, "Exhibitionists" (out on June 11 from Innovative Leisure). Products of the Silver Lake scene in Los Angeles that gave rise to the likes of Silversun Pickups and the band's current tour-mates Local Natives, the dream pop trio of Cameron Parkins, Sarah Chernoff and Max St. John wrote the song nearly two years ago in the early stages of creating their record. "It wasn't something that was necessarily intentional," Parkins says, "but it was the beginning of summer for us in Los Angeles, and we really wanted to capture the excitement that people have around that time."
The band finished tracking "Exhibitionists" in late 2011, releasing two critically acclaimed EPs along the way and honing a signature sound that mixes the ethereal harmonies of Chernoff and St. John with Parkins's haunting baritone. According to Parkins, who moved from his native Seattle to Los Angeles for college in 2004, Superhumanoids aim to capture the dualistic nature of their surroundings with songs like "So Strange": "We're trying to write pop songs that have depth and a bit of darkness to them," he says. "Los Angeles is a beautiful place, and 90 percent of the time it's amazing and idyllic, but it definitely has a weird underbelly as well. I hope that's reflected in our music."--Ny Times Blog
