Already this summer, Central Oklahoma has seen several extremely destructive, tornado-producing storms. On June 25th, 50% of the door profits from a show featuring Norman, Oklahoma's Evangelicals will be donated to the Red Cross to provide relief for disasters like these storms.
Evangelicals' return to touring has been eagerly awaited for four years. There's a plethora of adjectives that at one point or another can be used to describe their sound - ghostly, crooning, layered, energetic, enthusiastic, glam - but it all adds up to skillfully constructed indie rock with a pop sensibility. Pitchfork did not fail to take notice, giving 2006's debut 'So Gone' and follow-up 'The Evening Descends' ratings of 8.1 and 8.3 respectively.
Evangelicals bring along Brooklyn quartet Companion, the new project of critically acclaimed solo artist Pepi Ginsberg. Philadelphia City Paper didn't hold back in describing the power of Ginsberg's vocals when they said, "If Cat Power's voice and Neko Case's voice made sweet, sweet love to each other, you'd likely get the voice of Pepi Ginsberg." Pitchfork favorably reviewed Companion's February self-titled debut, saying of Ginsberg's evolution, "Armed with some glowing, magic-hour production, booming drums, and her trembling, emotive voice, she offers her personal vision of a big tent pop record, and it's a compellingly weird and personal one."
