B-Side Social w/ the Sofia Goodman Group
The hip, new series, B-Side Social returns for 2019! We've got a new night (Saturday) and reserved seating, but the series still features up-and-coming artists in Nashville's continually growing jazz scene at a great ticket price of $15 (advance or at the door). Kicking things off for the year is the Sofia Goodman Group Saturday, January 26 at 8pm in the Jazz Cave at the Nashville Jazz Workshop.
The Sofia Goodman Group is a jazz funk fusion group, led by drummer and composer Sofia Goodman, based in Nashville. The group performs original music, as well as arrangements of tunes in the jazz genre. Sofia had the honor of performing with Esperanza Spalding in Boston in 2005 and Esperanza's encouragement motivated Sofia to keep perfecting her craft. Sofia has been called "brilliant" by Tony Rounce of Ace Records and the music has been described as "The Grateful Dead sound fused with the best modern jazz." Radio host "Wildman" Steve Bronson had this to say after their performance at Alex City Jazz Fest: "The surprise of the night was The Sofia Goodman Group. Excellent band, jazz-fusion fun!" They have performed at notable festivals like The Alex City Jazz Fest, USM Jazz and Blues Fest, Fort Harrod Jazz Fest, West Georgia Jazz Fest, and Jazz on the Point. In 2018, they released their debut album "Myriad of Flowers" and it has been streamed worldwide.
Tickets for this performance are $15, advance or at the door. Advance tickets will be available online through Brown Paper Tickets starting Monday, January 14 at 10am. As with all NJW event, this is BYOB and BYOF.
