AACE Seattle Section January 10th, 2019 Meeting Best Western Plus Executive Inn 200 Taylor Avenue N. Seattle, WA
PRESENTATION: Alaskan Way Viaduct Replacement - Project Update and Lessons Learned In 2001, the earthquake that rocked the Puget Sound region demonstrated the need to replace the aging and seismically vulnerable Alaskan Way Viaduct. After years of studies and environmental reviews of various alternatives, tunneling technology advanced to a point at which a single bore double deck tunnel was selected in 2010 as the preferred alternative to minimize the impact of the viaduct replacement. That tunnel is now complete, and the work at each portal is nearing completion. A public grand opening is scheduled for February 2-3 and this presentation will provide a recap of the work accomplished to date, and review some of the Project Management processes and lessons that were learned in the implementation of this $3.3 billion program.
