Profs & Pints: George Washington, Inventor of the Presidency
Profs and Pints presents: George Washington, Inventor of the Presidency, with Denver Brunsman, associate professor of history at George Washington University and lecturer at Mount Vernon.
Come to the Bier Baron Tavern on Presidents Day to learn about George Washington, the president who started it all.
Profs and Pints crowd pleaser Denver Brunsman returns to its stage to discuss the challenges that that Washington faced in not only being the first president, but of essentially having to create the office of the presidency.
Conventions that we take for granted today, including the inaugural address, the cabinet, and the role of commander in chief, all originated with Washington. Underrated as a politician, he applied his political skill and leadership to establish the authority of the new federal government under the Constitution, all while also staying true to the republican ideals of the American Revolution.
Professor Brunsman will close with songs and toasts dedicated to Washington on his day. Huzzah! (Listed time is for doors. Talk begins 30 minutes later. Please arrive early enough to allow yourself plenty of time to place any orders and get seated and settled.)
