WTS January Lunch Program
Please join us for presentations on wildlife corridor and fish passage projects in our region.
WSDOTs I-90 Snoqualmie Pass East project expands and improves a 15-mile stretch of I-90 from Hyak to Easton. The corridor improvement program builds and replaces bridges, stabilizes rock slopes, and builds wildlife overcrossings and culverts to connect habitat previously divided by the freeway. Brian White, WSDOT Assistant Regional Administrator for Project Development and Construction, will focus on the wildlife corridor aspects of the project, sharing some of the challenges of planning, designing, and constructing these unique structures.
This June the Supreme Court left in place a lower court order that requires Washington State to remove barriers to salmon migration. The barriers are often culverts that are too small, too steep, or located too high above the stream bed to allow fish passage. The order is estimated to cover more than 900 culverts in western Washington. Fish passage projects involve many disciplines (biologist, hydrologists, environmental/ permitting, geotechnical/ civil/ structural engineers). Dave Caudill (Outdoor Grants Manager, Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office) and Dave Segal (Senior Engineer, PBS) will share some of the history of fish passage in the region and their experiences on these projects.
Networking begins at 11:30 am, the program begins at noon and ends at 1:00 pm. Space is limited.
