About the Project
Sutter Health's flagship new Cathedral Hill hospital is nearly finished. Join LAI for a tour of the remarkable new Van Ness Campus of the California Pacific Medical Center. This is likely your last chance to do so without first being hospitalized.
CPMC is adding 274 patient beds in a modern acute care hospital in the center of San Francisco. The hospital, a twelve-story home for the womens, childrens, cardiology, oncology, emergency care and transplant departments, will create 740,000 square feet of diagnostic, treatment, and inpatient bed space. An adjacent 253,000 square foot, nine story medical office building will accommodate outpatient services and support the health care professionals next door. The hospital and medical office, respectively LEED and LEED-Silver certified, will connect by a pedestrian tunnel below Van Ness Avenue.
The projects Integrated Project Delivery Team is co-located together at one site, 1200 Van Ness Avenue, where 250 designers, contractors, and owner representatives designed the project in a 3D environment down to the level of fractions of an inch.
The hospital will be unlike any other in the City. SmithGroupJJR, HerreroBOLDT, and Boulder Associates delivered a lightweight structural system, highly-diverse vegetated exteriors, and healthy building materials that significantly improve the energy efficiency of the hospital and will result in a setting that promotes the health of patients, staff, and visitors. Preassembly and prefabrication efforts reduced on-site congestion and delivered the project in a cleaner, safer, and more efficient manner.

- The NEW DATE is Friday, February 1, 2019.
- The tour will begin at the entry point on Franklin Street at Post Street. (*NOT* at the main hospital entry).
- No protective equipment or specialized attire or footwear is required.
