Pulling Back the Curtain: An Audition Workshop
On Sunday, December 30, 2018, local actors can showcase their acting skills while profiting from supportive feedback from a guest panel of noted Milwaukee directors & theatre artists.
PULLING BACK THE CURTAIN is a ''hands-on" opportunity to prepare for the competitive Milwaukee Generals (held Monday, January 21, 2019). PULLING BACK THE CURTAIN is a unique, supportive seminar also allows actors to share their new (or polished) monologues before a live audience. Actors will be asked to introduce and perform one set of audition monologues (before an audience and selected panelists) and then receive critical comments/supportive feedback from the guest panel of local directors & theatre professionals. If there is adequate time allowing (depending upon the number of participants), the panel may "work with" a given performer and this actor may be allowed to "re-boot" part or all of their monologue.
Following this first round of performed monologues, all (or some) of the participating actors may be asked to to share a second monologue.
Again, the panel will offer supportive commentary and -- depending upon the number of actors participating? -- may have time to actively work with the guest artists on their second monologue. Also, again depending upon the number of participants, some actors may -- just as in real life -- be asked to perform in what is called a "cold read" from a published play..
Boulevard theatre previously enjoyed great success with earlier editions of this dynamic event while providing tremendous educational feedback to the participating artists (as well as - hopefully - the audience members!).
Here is a link to a much earlier article detailing an earlier edition of our workshops - It's a true blast from the past per our Audition Idol, from the perspective of participant (and free lance writer) Stephanie Graham: https://urbanmilwaukee.com/2009/07/11/first-person-audition-idol-at-boulevard-theatre/ ...
There is limited availability for six to eight participating actors to enlist for this unusual opportunity. And there is limited seating for this one-performance-only Special Event ....
Actors who wish to sign up must contact Boulevard Theatre's Artistic Director Mark Bucher via his Face Book page or at his email at -- marksaysthankyouforwaiting@gmail.com.
NOTE: As of 12/12/18 (Tuesday), four actors have signed up to participate and have been confirmed as participants. Approximately four audition positions remain. Boulevard Artistic Director Mark Bucher may delay or close off the enlistment window early -- entirely at his discretion. Also, a waiting list may also ("may") be started, should all slots be filled. To quote from Stephen Sondheim's musical INTO THE WOODS: "Opportunity is not a lengthy visitor"
