Mark Erelli in concert with Zack Hickman
Bearing witness to small details and fleeting moments is what dignifies our everyday stories, rendering the mundane profound. This principle has governed Erelli's approach to his two decade career, including 11 solo albums, stints accompanying Josh Ritter, Paula Cole and Anais Mitchell, and a pair of records he produced for GRAMMY-winning songwriter Lori McKenna. Ever since Billboard magazine heralded the simple, atmospheric grace of his Signature Sounds debut, Erellis belief in the sacredness of an examined life has driven him between the ostensible extremes of lullabies and murder ballads, western swing and protest anthems. Whether hes holding a pen or a Telecaster, Erelli's music welcomes even the casual listener, but those who choose to dig more deeply are richly rewarded. Perhaps that is what Folk Alley hears in Erelli's songs, when it encourages people to listen close; there's sure to be something in there to break your heart a split second before it leads you straight to grace.
From a review of his 2016 critically-acclaimed record For a Song: This won't be the first time singer-songwriter Mark Erelli has been compared to Paul Simon, and it won't be the last On his new record For a Song, Erelli applies Simon's same brand of soft texture to his own sound, while also channeling a little of that Bob Dylan lonesome, raspy wanderer vibe. His songs are down to earth, no matter how dreamy they sound, and Erelli channels an old school style of folk music that suits him well. Not unlike The Milk Carton Kids, Erelli is careful and gentle with his craft, embracing the beauty in keeping things frills-free.
Zack Hickman will be joining Mark, bringing his upright double bass, signature moustache and his wry sense of humor.
Mark your calendar, come and see this acclaimed singer/ songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, you won't be disappointed!
