Sierra College Natural History Museum Lecture Series Presents Hang Out for Orangutans
The battle to save the closest relative to man is reaching crisis point. The orangutan species faces extinction due to rapidly expanding palm oil plantations and habitat loss in Borneo and Sumatra, South East Asia. Hangout for Orangutans is a world tour to raise global awareness and become more informed about the dire situation orangutans are facing and what we as consumers can do about it. The largest conservation group for orangutan conservation, The Orangutan Project is embarking on a speaking tour of the USA, Canada, UK and Ireland, throughout June and July 2013. The tour in the USA will feature talks from world-renowned Orangutan experts Dr. Gary Shapiro (former graduate of Sierra College & Co-founder and President of Orang Utan Republik Foundation), Leif Cocks (Founder and President of The Orangutan Project) and Garry Sundin (Founder of Eco Tourism Company, Orangutan Odysseys).
A reception will be held starting at 5:30pm at the Auburn Placer Performing Arts Center at the State Theater featuring passed hors d'oeuvres and drinks. All proceeds from the reception will benefit Orangutan Republik. The lecture will begin at 7:00pm. Tickets may be purchased for both the reception and the lecture or just the lecture.
