Claudia Nygaard / Jay Howlett
Co-Bill: Nygaard is Northern California native who's spend most of her career in Nashville; Howlett and his band are Bay Area favorites. This co-bill promises a musical evening that is lively and thoughtful, poignant and absurd. You won't know where they will musically take you next, but you are certain to enjoy the ride.
CLAUDIA NYGAARD A former KNTV weather reporter and graduate of San Jose State University, Claudia Nygaard's music took root right here in the South Bay. She began her singing career performing in Los Gatos bars and restaurants, but her dreams of being a songwriter led her to Nashville where she landed a job writing songs on Music Row. She never gave up performing however, and her affable personality and quick wit have charmed audiences in 47 states and 9 foreign countries. Claudia's music straddles the fence between country and folk with songs that range from scrappy to sensual, and humorous to heartfelt. Her latest CD "Let The Storm Roll In" cross-platormed to scale three different charts, landing at #1 on the Cashbox Roots Country Chart, #8 on the Folk DJ chart, and #26 on the Roots Americana Chart.
"Claudia Nygaard's music invitingly straddles the fence between country and folk with a band sound that is decidedly unplugged and artfully laid-back in support of her sensually lyrical alto. And then, there's the matter of her songs-- that rival the likes of Guy Clark or Ian Tyson in their plainspoken, memoir-like quality, rich with personalized images and a resonant point-of-view." --- Sing Out Magazine.
JAY HOWLETT & BLAH BLAH WOOF WOOF Jay Howlett is an award winning singer/songwriter with a powerful baritone voice and talent for storytelling. An accomplished performer with a degree in theatre, Jay writes simple honest songs about life in and around America and the experiences that bring us together and tear us apart. He is a troubadour in the most complete sense of the term: a storyteller with a compelling style that continuously engages his audiences.
Jay's been invited to play at folk festivals from Sisters, Oregon to Oakland Park, Florida from Park City, Utah to Kerrville, TX. Always in the middle of confusion and controversy Jay has played at two clothing optional resorts where he did not remove any clothing (while performing anyhow).
Tom Semioli of Minor 7th Webzine says: "With lyrics made all the more powerful by rootsy, spare arrangements, Howlett's collection is essential listening for fans of Bruce Cockburn, John Prine, Louden Wainwright III and solo Bruce Springsteen."
