Best of the Fest: 2013 Audience Award Winners
Casting By USA, 2012, 89 minutes Director: Tom Donahue 'Casting By' puts the spotlight on the casting director and takes us on a journey through the last 50 years of Hollywood history from an entirely new perspective. Pioneers Marion Dougherty and Lynn Stalmaster were iconoclasts whose exquisite taste and gut instincts helped to put an end to the old studio system and usher in the New Hollywood with movies like 'Midnight Cowboy', 'The Graduate', and 'Bonnie and Clyde'. They broke away from the traditional typecasting of Hollywood and brought a new kind of leading man and leading lady to the screen.
Preceded by The Mayor USA, 2013, 8 mins Director: Theo Rigby The Mayor is an intimate portrait of a small-town Southern Republican Mayor and his profound and unexpected connection to a mixed-status family of Mexican immigrants. Paul Bridges, the conservative Republican Mayor of Uvalda, Georgia, speaks fluent Spanish and is integrally connected to the Latino immigrant community in his town. Bridges has been a major part of the Hernandez family's life for over a decade and many of the members of the family are undocumented. After the State of Georgia adopts harsh anti-immigrant laws that make it a criminal act to drive or house undocumented people, Mayor Bridges stands up for his community and the Hernandez family both at home, and on the National stage.
