Masterpiece Series II
The Vashon Island based Trio Pardalotte (Victoria Parker, Rowena Hammill, & Heather Bentley) performs works from Los Angeles, Paris and Vienna on February 28.
Our loyal patrons know that Second City Chamber Series had planned to bring you a concert of contemporary New York composers performed by the award-winning Corigliano Quartet in a program entitled "New York Black." Unfortunately, an injury has forced the ensemble to cancel, but our concert has been rescued by three performers whose performance base is Vashon Island -hence our revised title, "Island Rescue"!
The Trio Pardalote is named after a small, rare, and extremely colorful Australian songbird.
Native Australian and Trio Pardalote founder Rowena Hammill explains: "the Pardalote is a very rare bird that appeared and sang to my mother back in Australia on her birthday. The beauty of its birdsong seemed a wonderful way to honor both this beautiful Australian treasure and the music we all love."
Ms. Hammill does not come to the Puget Sound by way of Australia, but by way of Los Angeles, where she continues to be Associate Principal Cellist of the Los Angeles Opera Orchestra. She and her husband, Doug Davis, have enjoyed getting away from the fast pace of life in Southern California to a life of tranquility on Vashon Island, but their music comes with them, of course!
Violist Heather Bentley is a longtime friend of the Second City Chamber Series, making her debut on the Series in 1989. We also welcome Puget Sound based violinist Victoria Parker to the stage for her Second City debut! We hope you will enjoy this program of music from Los Angeles, Paris and Vienna, performed by three distinguished and colorful songbirds of the Puget Sound whose performance base is Vashon Island-the Trio Pardalote!
