Opera Academy of California presents Il Giasone
A fully staged production of Cavalli's masterpiece, with instrumental ensemble. Jason of the Argonauts, a hero of ancient tales, is torn between passion and duty. Two women, two choices: one a seductress skilled in magic, and the other a fiercely loyal lover who will not let him forget his vows. This 17th century Baroque take on Greek mythology includes interference from the gods, ferocious monsters, a murder attempt, farcical situations, great suspenseAnd the biggest surprise of all a happy ending!
Performed by emerging singers from all over the country participants of the Opera Academy of California Summer Program. Conducted by Maestro Jun Nakabayashi, a Principal Conductor for the Taconic Opera. Directed by Yefim Maizel, a guest stage director of the New York Metropolitan Opera and Artistic Director of the Opera Academy of California. Young and exciting talent in an intimate setting. 7 performances only. Different casts, no night is like another! Performed in Italian with English supertitles.
