The Stairwells with Special Musical Guests FTET
The Stairwells evolved from an eight week a cappella class at Traip Academy in Kittery in the early 90's. At the close of the session, they wanted more and Instructor/music director Ben Baldwin, felt the same. They continued rehearsals each week for many years and after a brief hiatus, re-formed in 2010 and continue to sing a repertoire of songs from Rockin' Gospel to Doo Wop at weddings, fairs, libraries and multiple large community events.
FTET, an occasionally dormant seacoast instrumental ensemble features area greats Matt Langely, Nick Mainella, Rob Gerry and Jim Rudolph joining forces to bring out new jazz, old jazz and not jazz. The band plays "new standards", meaning, popular tunes of the last generation or two, approached as jazzpersons of old approached the popular music of their day, circumlocuitously, with ears open to innovation and classicism, and an unabashed penchant for the inside out. Expect 60's psychedelia, 90's grunge, spirituals, some Thelonious Monk tunes and a good time.
