The Comedy Underground Presents "Heirs of Lenny Bruce" starring Danny Bevins
Lenny Bruce was the first comedian to bring social and political satire to the comedy stage, pushing the envelope and challenging audience preconceptions of what stand-up comedy could be. He forever changed it - was the inspiration for George Carlin, who once shared a paddy wagon with him after an obscenity bust in San Francisco. In our series "The Comedy Underground Presents The Heirs of Lenny Bruce" at the Admiral Theater in West Seattle, we present contemporary comedians who embody the spirit of Mr. Bruce through their performance. Our first show stars DANNY BEVINS; Danny has been seen on HBO Comedy Festival-2006 Comedy Central's Premium Blend The World Stands Up Cat Laughs Comedy Festival-Kilkenny, Ireland Winner-2000 San Francisco International Comedy Festival Runner up-2004 Boston Comedy Competition; he is a regular on the "Comics On Duty" tour of US military bases throughout the world, including the combat zones, and is one of the stars of the "Comics On Duty" DVD.
Lenny Bruce died of a drug overdose on August 6, 1968, 40 years ago; his place in history is as a comedy innovator and defender of the 1st Amendment.
No comedian in the U.S. since has been convicted of obscenity.
