Bloomsday in Berkeley
Our Bloomsday Celebration includes staged reading from James Joyce's famous novel Ulysses. In which Leopold Bloom (the most famous jew in Ireland) and his cohorts spend one whole day and night (June 16th 1904) traipsing and tramping through the streets and strands of Dublin. We also include pieces from Joyce's other works A Portrait of the Artist and Finnegan's Wake.
By special arrangement this year we welcome (direct from Dublin) Ms Marion McEvoy who will perform her highly acclaimed work A Portrait of the Artist's Mother. This piece, with music and song, was commissioned by the nephew of James Joyce, created by Marion and performed with great success in many venues in Ireland including The Joyce Centre, and New York. This is a West Coast Premiere.
In addition Shosi Black will reprise her opening of our very first Bloomsday in 2003 when she was 5 years old! Shosi will be accompanied by her dad Shay Black of the famous Dublin Black family.
