Alina Simone with Adam Kurtz (CD release) and Matt Rock
Alina Simone brings a folk-oriented sensibility to her songs about ordinary places and strange meetings. Her style brings to mind both Cat Power and PJ Harvey, but its her recent project of Russian punk covers that separates her from the pack. Kindred spirit Adam Kurtz (last seen doing a mind-altering guitar solo in the local Russian tribute band, Kino Proby) joins Alina with the release of his new CD, The Devil is Defeated. The lineup is completed with the triumphant return of accordion aficionado Matt Rock, former co-proprietor of The Soundpost, fresh off the boat from a year adventuring in Europe.
