Edible Plants of Pepperwood
Have you ever tasted a roasted bay nut, nettle pesto or sautéed milk thistle greens? Come explore the world of edible plants found at Pepperwood and throughout Sonoma County with Autumn Summers, teacher and program coordinator for the California School of Herbal Studies. Class will begin inside with a lecture and hands-on experience identifying fresh plants, cooking, and tasting the local edibles. Then we'll head out on the trails near the Bechtel House. Our focus will be on the plants available during the fall season acorns, bay nuts, manzanita, cattail, madrone and others. Autumn will cover how to identify, properly harvest, store and prepare our regional foods. We are surrounded by food and medicine if we know what to look for!
