Bluetown Bluegrass Band
Barkley Davis - Fiddle
Barkley began his musical career at a very young age. Being the son of bluegrass singer/songwriter Marvin Davis, I guess you could say he was born to do it! At the age of 5 he began to show interest in playing the fiddle, and by the age of 8 he was entering and winning local fiddle contests throughout the tri state area. After graduating high school, Barkley's music career was put into what he thought was going to be permanent retirement when he enlisted in the U.S Army. After the military, Barkley played with various bands within the area. Now as one of the founding members of Bluetown, he can only say, "It's a familly, not a band." "Even if we are not on stage with an instrument in our hand, but in the back yard grilling out, nothing changes. We are like brothers, and the wives are like sisters. It's the most fun I've ever had playing music." Barkley and his wife, Jennifer, have three children and live in Avon, Indiana.
Tim Collier - Guitar
Tim's love for bluegrass music came at the early age of 5 years old, when he was already singing in church with his dad, the late Hershel Collier. "I have been fascinated with the guitar for as long as I can remember. My dad and older brother Rick played long before I ever started. It wasn't until 1992 that I heard Tony Rice play and my heart was stolen forever. The timing and drive he had, has never been and never will be surpassed. My musical hero's are Tony Rice, JD Crowe, and Doyle Lawson. When Tim is not playing music, he enjoys spending lots of time with his family. Tim can be found at the Decatur Soccer fields watching Emily and Nathan playing soccer -- then at the basketball courts watching his other two, Zach and Noah. Tim and his wife, Kim, have four children and reside in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Rick Collier - Mandolin
Rick started listening to bluegrass music as a child and listened to many different artists with his father, the late Hershel Collier. Rick learned to first play the guitar at the age of 12 and then went on to play the mandolin. In Rick's spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family, fishing and golfing. You can always find Rick at the Plainfield High School Football games supporting his middle son, Nick, who will be a Senior and is the team Quarterback along with his daughter who is one of the PHS Cheerleaders. Rick's oldest son will be a Senior at Anderson University, where you can also find Rick cheering on the "AU Ravens" football/basketball teams. Rick enjoys all the time the band, along with their families, spend together. "These are truly great friends and we are just like one big family! I am blessed to be surrounded by a great group of people, who are a great influence to me and my family." Rick and his wife, Anita, have three children and reside in Plainfield, Indiana.
Kolin Brown - Bass
As a classically trained musician, and the son of a music teacher, Kolin began his musical ventures at an early age playing cello in the school orchestra, and later percussion in band. After winning the Louis Armstrong Jazz award, and receiving honors from Purdue University, the bluegrass bug bit the family. With his older brother never far away, Kolin played with various acts and eventually landed with Olivia Smiley and Main Street. Kolin comes to Bluetown offering a solid rhythmic foundation for the band, as well as comic relief and tech support. When not playing music, he enjoys spending time with his wife and 5 year old daughter cruising around town in their 1952 Pontiac Sedan!
Cody Hill - Banjo
Cody Hill, 21, plays the 5 string banjo for Bluetown. Cody was introduced to bluegrass at the age of 15, and acquired a guitar from a family friend. He played guitar for about 6 months and received a banjo for Christmas in 2007, and as he says, "never looked back." Cody has a traditional style of banjo playing, thriving from his biggest influences Ron Stewart, JD Crowe, and of course Earl Scruggs. Aside from music, he enjoys hunting and fishing, American muscle cars, and football. Cody says, "I would like to thank the Bluetown guys for giving me the opportunity to play music with them. Every time we get together is a great time. These guys have helped me so much along my musical journey, and they are the best friends anyone could ask for. It's one big family in the Bluetown group."
